What the heck is Silent Sound Waves?

No doubt those of you reading this are wondering what Silent Sound Waves is, and with this first post I’ll do my best to give you a reasonable answer. In short it is just what that fancy image above says, a music blog.

The longer and more complicated answer to the question is that this is something I have been wanting to do for a long time. I love music, and I love to share the music I like with people, and for the longest time I have wanted to write about music. This resulted in the registration of the domain name SilentSoundWaves.com, where you most likely arrived for the first time just a moment ago.

Originally I wanted SSW to be something big and pompous with lots of news and information about “all” the artists I like, and maybe even artists other people who volunteered to write for the site liked. But at some point, I lost the original motivation I had to start a website about music. I think it was around the same time I started comparing my own music related reviews to those of other publications, and got scared by the fact that mine weren’t half as good or insightful.

But I still wanted to write about music, and just now tonight that spark inside of me was ignited again, and I decided that I would just do it (there must have been a Nike commercial on TV). But instead of trying to do it as big as originally planned, I decided to do a good, old-fashioned blog instead, and what you are looking at right now is the result.

This won’t be an encyclopedia of information containing facts about all types of bands and artists in all genres, nor the traditional musical publication spewing out fancy-worded, negative reviews of every artist except those who you get “creds” for loving. It’s just one guy writing his honest opinions about the music he listens to.

If that sounds like your cup of tea, feel free to stick around and see what’s to come. I’ll be writing about a few of my favourite artists in the coming days, and that should give you some idea of what type of music I generally like to listen to. And maybe, just maybe, if some of it is up your alley, reading Silent Sound Waves can open up your ears for brand new artists that you hadn’t already heard of.
