She’s not exactly what you’d call an “actress turned vocalist”.. Or a “vocalist turned actress,” for that matter. She is Zooey Deschanel, a talented young lady who has starred in such films as Elf, Yes Man, and Almost Famous, and has performed with a jazz cabaret act known as If All the Stars Were Pretty Babies.
He is Matt Ward, a.k.a., M. Ward. He is an accomplished songwriter and musician, sharing the studio with such acts as My Morning Jacket and Bright Eyes, as well as performing and promoting his own popular solo material.
Together, they are She & Him, literally and otherwise. Their first compilation of recorded music together is appropriately titled Volume One and was released in early 2008 on Merge Records.

While we don’t normally cover this kind of news here at Silent Sound Waves, we feel that this is well worth mentioning. Apple have announced today that they have finally negotiated a deal with the major labels about selling all the music in the iTunes Music Store without any sort of DRM (Digital Rights Management) protection. In addition to this the music store is also adopting a new pricing strategy.

Listen to a new, free song by Swedish band Kent
Swedish rockers, Kent, which we have previously covered several times here at Silent Sound Waves, released a brand new song for free through their website right before Christmas. The new song is called “På Drift?”, and was written specifically to be used in a Swedish commercial against bullying among teenagers. It’s difficult to pinpoint the specific “toxin” that vocalists Dan Smith and Izaac Burkhart refer to throughout I Was Searching and I Found, Weaver at the Loom’s debut mini-concept EP. It may be a personal struggle, mortification, or even infamy. It’s possibly something as simple as an acknowledgment of the choices we are given — and take advantage of — in our daily lives. But in reality, the main focus of this five-track disc is to simultaneously identify life’s temporary nature and attempt to endure it.

Listen to new songs from Manchester Orchestra!
Manchester Orchestra’s sophomore release, Mean Everything To Nothing, is scheduled to be released sometime late in the spring of 2009. It was originally scheduled for March 31st, but according to AbsolutePunk it has, even though it’s officially finished, been pushed back.
I am extremely excited about this record myself, and as a treat to all the other Manchester Orchestra fans out there, I have scoured through YouTube and found some of the best available audio recordings of songs that might make it to the new album. Warning: If you don’t want to listen to lousy recordings of the new songs, do not read on!
