Introducing the magnificent and Exceptional Edward

Running a music blog isn’t all that I had hoped it would be when I first started Silent Sound Waves; it’s ten times better than I ever thought it would be! The most immediate perk is that bands and promoters send us music to listen to because they want us to write about it. Most of the time the music doesn’t match the type of music we write about, but that just makes it all the more pleasing when I receive emails such as the one I got from Jason Turner, one of the founding halves of Ohio based indie pop/rockers known as Exceptional Edward.

Fiction Family - Fiction Family (Review)

ff

The album cover for Fiction Family's self-titled album.

Jon Foreman has been hard at work the past few years, knocking out several solo projects, as well as prepping new material for the upcoming Switchfoot release. He’s also been writing and recording an album with Sean Watkins of Nickel Creek, and this Fiction Family LP is the result. It’s one of my highly-anticipated albums of this year, and it released today through ATO Records.

Much like the Lord himself, the human mind works in mysterious ways. Whenever we see or hear something that we have yet to form an opinion about, we are likely to adopt the underlying opinion embedded in what we are perceiving and claim it as our own. And from that moment on, we will seek out the facts that amplify our adopted opinion and twist, turn or even negate the things that might go against the way we see things.

Those of you who have followed Silent Sound Waves for a while will remember that the first featured artist in our Fresh Waves column was Stickboy, an unsigned UK based folk/indie type artist, and we are pleased to finally report about new music from the artist! Kevin Max - Crashing Gates (Review)

crashing-gates

Kevin Max's Crashing Gates EP cover.

When bands split, it’s not always easy to find a suitable side project that will further your career while still keeping the interest of the original band’s fans. Kevin Max Smith has managed to find himself a way to do these things and much more. As the most lyrically ornate of the three original dc Talk members, Kevin Max has found an avenue for his thoughtful creativity and experimentation. His solo work, beginning with his first full-length solo LP, Stereotype Be, up through his current release, Crashing Gates, is noticeably intellectual while still retaining accessibility and palpably relatable connections for the listener. Crashing Gates released at the beginning of last month and is the first of a two EP project, focusing on end times and speculating on the future.
