Travis announce new album titled Ode to J. Smith
UK based pop-band Travis have just announced that they will be releasing a new full length album titled Ode to J. Smith on September 29th this year. The band recently released a three track EP called J. Smith which has been very successful in the UK indie circles, and it features a faster paced and more rocked up sound than the gentle pop sound we’ve become accustomed to with their latest studio releases. You can hear the titletrack from the EP at their MySpace profile.
The new album will follow in the same veins, and labelled as “prog-pop” by the band’s bassis Dougie Payne, the press release states that ” Ode to J.Smith is Travis’s loudest, edgiest and most arresting record since their debut. Written in 5 weeks and recorded in just 14 days, it’s the sound of a band re-born, re-inspired and re-energised ”
The new album’s first single is called Something Anything, and it will be released on September 15th as a CD, 7″ inch vinyl and of course digitally. The CD and digital release will include the single as well as two other unreleased songs called Tail of the Tiger and Used to Belong, while the b-side of the 7″ inch includes a cover of The Kinks‘ classic Lola.
Travis are currently on a world tour where they are mostly playing their old material, but they are also showcasing some of the new stuff from the J. Smith EP, but with the announcement of the new album they also revealed that they will be embarking on a new UK tour coinciding with the release of the new album. You can see the tour dates below.
