Supergroup Updates

It’s kind of like fantasy sports for the musical world.. Except, in this case, it’s real.

Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers (and Chickenfoot)

Chickenfoot, a band comprised of famed guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani, legendary vocalist Sammy Hagar (of Van Halen), notorious bassist Michael Anthony (of Van Halen), and renowned Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, is close to finishing their first studio effort. The album title hasn’t yet been confirmed; however, rumors suggest “Ignition Friction.” The group has already performed live together as additional entertainment at a Sammy Hagar concert.

Adam Schlesinger (of Fountains of Wayne), James Iha (of Smashing Pumpkins and A Perfect Circle), Taylor Hanson (of Hanson.. yes, that Hanson), and Bun E. Carlos (of Cheap Trick), collectively known as the newly formed Tinted Windows, are set to release their first full-length album on April 21, 2009. The lead single from the album, “Kind of a Girl,” became available digitally on February 24, and is up for streaming on their myspace. The band has already prepared to perform live on the David Letterman Show the night before their album releases.

Heard about Tinted Windows earlier, but Chickenfoot sounds even more interesting. Great catch!

Of course, none of them match up to the original and most super supergroup of all times: Travelling Wilburys! ;)
