Manchester Orchestra have put the first single, I’ve Got Friends, from their up-coming album, Mean Everything To Nothing, up for grabs absolutely free of charge, over at Spinner.com. Additionally they have also, according to AbsolutePunk, revealed that they plan to release Mean Everything on April 21st. Get on over there and get a taste of the musical delight to come, or read on for our impressions!
In the statement to Spinner Andy Hull said:
“We wanted our album to sound as emotionally dark as ‘Pinkerton’ as fuzzy as ‘In the Aeroplane Over the Sea,’ or any Jack White guitar tone, and as musically intense as ‘In Utero,’” Hull says. “The bonding of musicianship was heavily influenced by the bonding of experience. You are more comfortable with people you are around every moment of every day, so when it comes to writing songs together, it can be just as simple as deciding on where to eat. There were no fights or scuffles while writing the album, because we all wanted the same thing musically that we had achieved personally.” (Spinner)
And judging purely from this single it shows that they have grown. It is difficult to say anything about how good the record as a whole will be, but this lonely track goes a long way in proving what many have claimed; the band has succeeded better than ever in expressing the type of energy that they are known for on stage during their live shows, in the studio. On the other side, the song is at the same time heavier than everything off of Like A Virgin Losing A Child, so it will be interesting to see how the fans react. Regardless, in our opinion April can’t come around soon enough!
