Did you remember to pick up these two gems?
In between the many big releases the past few weeks including new albums from Keane, Copeland, Ryan Adams & The Cardinals and The Cure, you just might have missed two of the gems that didn’t get the kind of hype the former did. Luckily I caught them and I’m here to share them with you. Hit the jump to read about the recommendations.
The first is the new combinated EP/DVP by Manchester Orchestra titled Let My Pride Be What’s Left Behind. I have yet to get a hold of the DVD as it is only available at independant record stores in the US, but I have the contents of the EP, and it is well worth it. It contains two new songs called I Can Feel A Hot One and I Was A Lid, and if they are any indication of what we can expect from their new record due early next year my overly exaggerated expectations just might be met after all.
As if two brand new songs weren’t enough, the EP has a third highlight; a fantastic acoustic version of Wolves At Night where Andy Hull shines at his absolute brightest. In my opinion it even trumps the original version, though the comparison isn’t really fair as they sound like to completely different songs with only the lyrics in common. Additionally the EP also includes live recordings of Badges and Badges and Sleeper 1972. If you’re in the US, you can see where you can get a hold of the release here.
The second release I would like to recommend just came out last week, and it is a solo-effort by Against Me!’s frontman Tom Gabel. Despite the immense success he experienced with Against Me! and New Wave last year this new record has gotten surprisingly little attention from the general press so far, but even though I have just listened to it a couple of times I can safely recommend it to those who like his previous work. The message is obviously more politically motivated and the sound is a little different, but the end result is just as compelling as you’d expect. I’ll be back later this week with a proper review of this album, but in the meantime you should check it out yourself and see if you don’t like it!
