Bukta 2008: 5th Annual Tromsø Open Air Festival
Yours truly is ready for the festival and has the wristband to prove it
This afternoon marks the opening of the rock music festival known as Bukta, hosted in the town of Tromsø in Norway (see map), which is perfectly placed in the land of the midnight sun (or snow and rain) just north of the arctic circle.
Last year the festival was hailed in the national press as the best rock-centric festival in Norway, and with artists such as Iggy Pop, Turbonegro and Calexico it was even noticed internationally. This year’s program looks every bit as promising as that of last, with the first lady of rock, Patti Smith, headlining the opening day.
Other acts this year include Woven Hand and Fuckemos from the United States, Danko Jones from Canada and one of the most successful Norwegian bands on the international stage the past decade, Madrugada, and many, many more.
I will of course be there all weekend enjoying the rock (and the beer, naturally) and I will try to give you day to day coverage of what’s going on. As my little Nikon compact camera can hardly be classified as professional equipment, I’ll try to bring you exclusive photos from the festival as well.
Personally I am more hyped than anything about seeing one of my all time favourites live for the first time on Saturday when Swedish legends Kent (preview them on iTunes) are the main attraction, and my most anticipated act today along with Patti Smith is a new and upcoming Norwegian rock band known as The Disciplines (MySpace) which I will certainly cover more thoroughly here at this blog in the near future.
